Meaning Through Motion

Children love to play. It is what they find to be fun because it gets them up, moving around, and is an active part of their lives. Most children exhibit the spirit and fun of involvement whether through sports teams, individualized games, or through song and dance. It is through the process of play that children learn, explore, and engage.

The idea of implementing a book club as an after school option will turn reading into a fun occasion, a gathering to play. Through Reader's Theater, drawing book covers, making music for books and elaborating on the background of characters children will want to revisit and further their reading more and more.
Struggling readers seem to be motivated by bringing books to life because it motivates them to read the book more thoroughly. They see others getting to specific parts and they will want to become more involved in having to break down the words and the meanings of books.
MSU students are a great way to incorporate meaning though motion because being young themselves they still enjoy the act of play and having fun.
